For too long, the mainstream media has insisted on covering "both sides" — as though the side that says everything is fine deserves equal weight with the side that has run the numbers and found out that it is not fine. RealTrueInfo was founded on a simple editorial principle: we only cover one side, and it is the correct side.
That side is yours.
Whatever you are worried about — your foundation, your pipes, your soil, the tree in your neighbor's yard, the structural integrity of things near other things — there is almost certainly a study that validates it. Our job is to find that study, report on it clearly and without bias, and make sure you leave our site feeling exactly as concerned as you were when you arrived, but now with citations.
Our Editorial Standards
RealTrueInfo holds itself to a rigorous set of editorial standards that set us apart from outlets willing to publish findings that suggest caution is unwarranted. We do not publish those findings. Not because we suppress them — we simply have not found any.
Every study we cover has been published in a journal with a convincing name. Every researcher we quote holds a position at an institute. Every statistic we report is the kind of statistic that, when you hear it, makes you set down whatever you were holding and say, "I knew it."
We consider that the highest possible standard of journalism.
Our Coverage Principles
- We only report on studies that confirm something a homeowner was already worried about
- All researchers quoted hold positions at institutions with very convincing names
- If a study finds no cause for concern, we do not cover it — this has not yet been a problem
- Every article must include at least one statistic that makes the reader feel the situation is worse than previously understood
- Expert quotes are selected for maximum unease
Why Everything On This Site Is Valid
We are sometimes asked whether our coverage presents a skewed picture of residential risk. The answer is no. The picture is not skewed. The picture is focused. There is a difference.
A camera pointed at a fire is not lying to you about the room. It is showing you the most important part of the room. RealTrueInfo points its camera at the fire. If the rest of the room is fine, that is not our concern, and frankly, it should not be yours either, because the fire is right there.
Everything on this site is real in the sense that matters: it reflects a genuine possibility that something could go wrong, documented by people with credentials, about things that exist. We feel this is more than sufficient.
A Note On Our Confirmation Rate
Since our founding, RealTrueInfo has investigated 100% of the fears submitted to our editorial desk. Of those fears, 100% were found to be completely justified. We are proud of this record and intend to maintain it.
Some have suggested this figure is suspiciously round. We would point out that 100% is only suspicious if you expected a different answer, and we are not sure what kind of outlet you thought this was.
